SP User Manager

Introduction

SP User Manager is a tool that allows you to extract a list of unique users who accessed a certain site collection. The tool will list all available SharePoint Applications and the underlying site collection. You can then choose which Site Collection you are interested to extract their user list. You can then store the extracted list in a comma separated file (*.CSV).

If you are interested to see each site collection that users belong to you can get that done by selecting the check box “Add a record for each Site Collection”. This will add a separate record for each user for each site collection he belongs to. That means the returned list will not be normalized (it will contain duplicate user names to list all the users\site collections mapping). You can do the same thing for the subsite information. To do that you can check “Add a record for each Sub Site”.

Make sure you check these boxes if required prior to hitting the ‘(2) Get Site Users’ button.

This tool can help you list all the unique users accessed a site collection. However, the subsites (SPWeb) users list pulled by the tool only includes the users who have explicit permissions on the site. So any user who is granted access to a site through domain group permission will not be listed. In order to get accurate information about the users who access certain subsites you better off parsing the IIS logs.

This tool runs in two modes

  1. Windows mode. Windows forms GUI is displayed.
  2. Command line mode. Opens in command shell.

This tool support SharePoint 2007 and up.

Tool requirements

  1. Needs to run with elevated privileges.
  2. Needs to run from within one of the SharePoint boxes in the farm.
